Healthcare in Georgia is affordable and high-quality in the private sector, and from 2026 insurance is required on entry. Here's what to know.
Mandatory entry insurance
From 1 January 2026, medical insurance is mandatory for all foreigners entering Georgia. Minimum coverage limits are around $5,000 for outpatient care and at least $30,000 for inpatient treatment.
Cost of insurance for residents
- Local Georgian policies with private-hospital cover — roughly $40–100 a month.
- International plans (Cigna, Allianz, SafetyWing) with worldwide cover and evacuation — $50–150 a month.
Private clinic prices
- GP visit — $15–30.
- Specialist consultation — $30–80.
- Comprehensive blood work — $20–40.
- MRI — $80–150.
That's 70–90% cheaper than Western prices.
Standard of care
Modern private clinics in Tbilisi are affordable and English-friendly, while the public system is basic. Many specialists at top clinics trained in Europe, Israel or the US; cardiology, dentistry and ophthalmology are particularly strong.
Practical tip
Even if you have international insurance, check whether it satisfies the new 2026 entry rules and whether specific Georgian clinics accept it. A Georgian bank account and phone number help for paying bills and getting a local policy (see the relevant articles).
