Georgia's Refugee Agency will purchase residential houses for 261 families of forcibly displaced persons. This initiative is a continuation of a state program aimed at improving housing conditions for internally displaced persons who lost their homes as a result of conflicts and forced displacement.
Housing Provision Terms
All selected families are given the opportunity to independently choose a residential house in any region of the country. They are given six months to make a decision and complete the necessary documents. Lists of aid recipients have already been published and are known to the interested families.
The amount of funds allocated to each family for home purchase is calculated individually, taking into account their financial situation and income. This differentiated approach makes it possible to ensure a more fair distribution of state assistance depending on the needs of specific families.
Program History and Scale
The program for providing housing to forcibly displaced persons in rural areas has been operating in Georgia since 2014. Over more than a decade of implementation, the state has purchased housing for more than 13 thousand families, which testifies to the scale and sustainability of this initiative.
Last year, the pace of program implementation increased: approximately 3 thousand families were provided with housing. The current purchase of houses for 261 families demonstrates the continuation of state investments in solving housing problems for internally displaced persons, which remain one of the pressing social issues in the country.
